Platycerium Fern Ellisii Image

Prehistoric Platycerium Fern Ellisii

Platycerium Fern Ellisii Has A Natural Living Habitat Located On The Western Side And Within The Tropical Rain Forest Of Madagascar , Along With Three Other Prehistoric Platycerium Ferns . This Prehistoric And Tropical Platy. Species Can Be A Little Tough To Cultivate , For A Number Of Reasons .

The Fertile Fronds , Of This Platycerium Species , Becomes Rather Tall , Very Wide And To Heavy For The Rhizome . As The Species Matures And The Fertile Fronds Become Larger And Heavier The Extra Weight Will Cause The Rhizome To Break Which In Turn Causes The Loss Of The Growing Bud And (Death) To The Platy. Species . If This Happens , Hopefully There Will Be Pups Present And They Are Growing Well . When The Weight , Of The Fertile Fronds , Becomes To Heavy They Will Need To Be Constantly Tied Back In Order To Stabilize Them And Prevent The Rhizome From Breaking .

With Each New Growth Of A Shield Or Fertile Frond , On Platycerium Fern Ellisii , The Growing Bud Which Is Located On The Rhizome Moves Further Away From The Root Mass And As This Process Unfolds The Rhizome Will Become To Thin And Weak To Hold Any Substantial Weight . With The Fertile Fronds Becoming Taller , Larger And Heavier , As The Species Matures , The Extra Weight Placed Upon The Rhizome Will Cause This Thin And Weak Rhizome To Break .

The Watering , Of Platy. Fern Ellisii , Can Become Very Difficult , If You Do Not Posses Patients , Because The Shield Fronds Of This Prehistoric Platycerium Fern Naturally Grows And Lays Flat Against The Root Mass And Its Host Plant . This Causes The Watering , Of The Root Mass , To Become Quite Difficult . At Madagascar Tropicals We Totally Submerge Platy. Fern Ellisii And Any Other Platycerium Species That Has This Type Of Shield Frond Form . The Species Will Be Submerged In A 30 Gallon Container Filled With Water And After Performing This Task We Allow The Species To Completely Dry Back , Before The Next Watering . This System Of Watering Assures That The Root Mass Becomes Totally Watered And The Host Plant Becomes Damp Enough For The Growing And Holding Roots To Be Drawn To It .

When Cultivating Platy. Fern Ellisii Or Any Of The Three Prehistoric Platycerium Ferns Found Living And Surviving , On The Island Of Madagascar , Keep In Mind That These Species Are Found Living And Surviving On The Western Side , Of The Island And Within The Middle Portion Of The Rain Forest . The Portion Of Rain Forest Located On The Eastern Side , Of The Island , Will Receive Heavy Rains Almost Every Day , But Very Little Of These Heavy Rain Will Make It Past The High Mountain Ranges To The Western Side . The Moisture That Will Make It Past The Mountain Ranges And Western Side Will Be In The Form Of A Mist . This Is One Reason That All Four Madagascar Platycerium Ferns Must Dry Back Well Before The Next Watering . Some Times A Rain Cloud Will Sneak Past The High Mountain Ranges And Water The Platy. Ferns Very Well , But This Will Not Occur Every Day . Take A Look At This Rain Forest Map Of Madagascar And Notice How Dry The Western Side Of The Island Is .

The Prehistoric And Tropical Platycerium Fern Ellisii Has A Natural Color Shade In Its Shield And Fertile Fronds Of Light Green And Doesn't Have Any Stellate Hairs On Them As Platy. Fern Alcicorne Madagascar Has . The Species Fertile Fronds Are Very Thin Next To The Growing Bud And Resembles A Thin Twig , But Will Continuously Fan Outward To Its End . These Fertile Fronds Have Two Wide Fingers At The End And The Reproductive Spore Patch Is Located On The Underside Of These Fingers . The Fertile Fronds Of Platycerium Fern Ellisii Does Not Store Moisture .

The Shield Fronds , Of Platy. Fern Ellisii , Are Round And Naturally Lie Tight And Flat Against The Root Mass And Host Plant , Which Allows The Root Mass Not To Dry Back To Fast . These Shield Fronds Are A Light Green Color , With Thin Veins And Will Not Store Moisture . When The Shield Fronds (Die) Back They Become A Dark Walnut Brown .

Platycerium (Staghorn) Fern Ellisii Is A Tropical Platycerium Plant Species And Will Require Tropical Cultivating . A Temperature Must Be Maintained Between (65) And (75) Degrees And The Filtered Sun Light Given To The Species Should Be Between 30% And 40% . And The Air Movement , Around The Species , Must Be Excellent And Gentile . Platy. Fern Ellisii Must Be Allowed To Completely Dry Back Before The Next Watering Or Root Rot Will Set In , Because Of The Way The Shield Fronds Naturally Grows They Will Not Allow The Root Mass To Dry Back Too Fast . Allowing The Species To Completely Dry Back Will Prevent Root And Shield Frond Rot . The Humidity Range , For This Species , Should Be Maintained Between 65% And 75% Percent In Order For Platy. Fern Ellisii To Live , Grow And Survive .

Prehistoric Platycerium Fern Ellisii Can Be A Difficult Species To Cultivate , Because Of Over Watering The Species And Rhizome Breakage , But With A Little Patients , Energy And Proper Cultivation The Platy. Fern Species Will Live , Grow And Survive .
