Platycerium (Staghorn) Ferns As Epiphytes
Prehistoric Platycerium Fern , Fertile Frond Curl
|
These Two Images , With Prehistoric Platycerium Fern Quadridichotomum On The Left And Prehistoric Platycerium Fern Wallichii On The Right , Shows The Curling Of Their Fertile Fronds . When The Fertile Fronds Begin To Curl It Does Not Mean That The Species Is Dying , But Tells You That The Reproductive Spore Patch Has Completed Its Life Cycle . In Mid To Late Spring , After The Species Has Produced A New Set Of Shield Fronds , The Two Prehistoric Platycerium Ferns Will Produce Their New Fertile Fronds .
